KAAPMUIDEN – Parents, dignitaries from the Department of Education, members from the school governing body and representatives of TRAC and RCL Foods attended Kaapmuiden Primary’s prize-giving ceremony on November 11 to congratulate learners on their achievements.
The ceremony was opened with the singing of the South African National Anthem, as well as a few cheerful Christmas carols and hymns.
Each grade had the opportunity to perform prior to receiving their awards and entertained friends and family with song and dance. Athletes and sports teams who did well throughout the year, were rewarded with certificates. Sholwe Makhubela and Thabethe Sinenhlanhla were announced as the victor and victrix ludorum of the year.

The top performers in subjects such as languages, maths and life skills were awarded book prizes:
• In grade one they were Thandiswa Masilela, Pearl Sithole, Junior Dlamini and Lidelwa Mabuza.
• In grade two, they were Kamogelo Nkosi (with three books) and Hlubi Nkosi.
• Grade three winners were Tinyiko Mathebulo, Bandile Moyane and Uyanda Zondi.
• Grade fours were Awande Nkoi, Gugulethu Kwaba, Siphosethu Sihlongonyane and Hope Magagula.
• Grade five winners were Siphosethu Nkosi, Lungelo Mthimkhulu, Siphosethu Novel, Olwethu Dube and Samkelo Mahlangu.
• Grade six winners were Innocentia Madonsela, Junior Gama, Lunga Mashabane, Mpho Nkosi, Thabiso zitha and Khwezi Thwala.
• Grade seven top achievers were Anothando Khaza (two books), Nkosikwanele Phiri (four books), Nomfuneko Manoke (two books) and Nomthandazo Ngobeni.
Each grade’s top-three academic achievers were also rewarded and Nkosikwanele Phiri was crowned dux learner of 2016.

The Learners’ Representative Council for the next year was announced with Andile Hadebe, Innocentia Madonsela, Shantel Msimango, Charmaine Ngomane, Nomcebo Ngwenya, Joy Nkosi, Sinethemba Nkosi, Pearl Nyanthi, Charmaine Sithole, Junior Gama, Sizwe Ndlala, Thando Nkosi, Acknowledge Shabangu and Gniso Sibiya. Mpho Nkosi and Lunga Mashabane were chosen as head girl and head boy.
After speeches by the outgoing head boy and girl about their great experience at Kaapies, the two new leaders had the opportunity to take the microphone.
Principal André Hart concluded the ceremony with the announcement that he was retiring at the end of the year. He remarked on how proud he was of the pupils’ achievements and how much he had enjoyed his time at the school.
