Breaking news: Union turns TCM on its head

This follows after TCM held interviews on Thursday and Friday last week for the appointment of a new municipal manager.

Lydenburg – Members of the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) this morning turned Thaba Chweu Municipality (TCM) on its head. The union trashed the entrance of TCM and prevented residents from paying their municipal accounts.

This follows after TCM held interviews on Thursday and Friday last week for the appointment of a new municipal manager. Mr Themba Sibiya of Samwu told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that the union was excluded from the interviews and is being kept in the dark surrounding the appointment of the new municipal manager. “We are not allowed to form part of the panel which are screening potential candidates for the position. The union is  being excluded and we understand that a resident from Rietfontein has apparently been appointed as the new municipal manager.”

The union later moved to the municipal chambers where further discussions took place.
