Suspects linked to break-ins apprehended

The suspects appeared in court on February 17. They will remain in police custody until their next appearance on February 23 for a formal bail application.

LYDENBURG – Another breakthrough has been made by Lydenburg Detective Services. Officers under the leadership of Capt Aaron Digoro arrested two suspects who have terrorised the community with housebreakings for months.

According to SAPS spokesman, Capt Alfred Moela, among the crimes they were suspected of, is a house robbery at a potato-seeds storage unit. The culprits were arrested last Tuesday.

“It is alleged that Thato Selala (22) and Jack Kgoete (29) and an accomplice, who is still at large, committed the robbery at the storage unit on January 20. It is said that they gained entrance through the roof and held three employees up at gunpoint. They tied the employees with electric cables and fled the scene with R30 000, a laptop and a microwave oven.”

Moela said that the same suspects had since been linked to a house robbery at Mosterthoekoin on December 8, last year. “Two employees on the farm were also tied up. They were held at gunpoint while the other two gained access to the farmer’s house using a grinder to get through the roof. The farmer was not at home at the time.”

Selala and Kgoete have also been linked with a robbery at the Dros while it was still in business. “They broke through the door and stole cutlery to the value of R4 000.” Moela said that the investigation was pending. “We are confident that there are many more cases that could be solved, looking at the modus operandi of the men.”

The suspects appeared in court on February 17. They will remain in police custody until their next appearance on February 23 for a formal bail application. Digoro can be contacted with information regarding the cases on 082-303-9799.
