Allegations of sexual harassment at Sekhukhune municipality

According to Samwu, the senior staff member will appear in the Groblersdal Magistrate's Court today on charges of sexual harassment, after he allegedly skipped court on April 26.

SEKHUKHUNE – The South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) said it was shocked and disappointed by the alleged sexual harassment and ill-treatment of Sekhukhune District Municipality’s (SDM) manager of corporate services. Rebecca Maunatlala has obtained a protection order against a senior member of staff. She recently opened a case against him at Groblersdal SAPS.

According to Samwu, the senior staff member will appear in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court today on charges of sexual harassment, after he allegedly skipped court on April 26. The union called on Limpopo women to support Maunatlala on the day. Meanwhile SDM’s spokesman Willy Mosoma indicated that the SDM viewed any allegations of sexual harassment in a serious light. The municipality said appropriate sanctions will be taken in line with investigation outcomes. The DA in Limpopo also wrote to Ramaila on Wednesday reiterating that the senior staff member should be suspended.The DA has further written to the Speaker, Maria Manamela, requesting a special council meeting to allow the executive mayor to table these allegations and to suspend the alleged perpetrator.
