Police find illegal firearms hidden in bakkie’s load of pipes

Search of a suspicious vehicle led to the arrest of several people and the discovery of illegal firearms hidden among old pipes.

KOMATIPOORT – Eight suspects were arrested after police found illegal firearms and ammunition hidden in stacks of aluminium pipes on Saturday afternoon.

Securicon Lowveld apprehended the eight people, aged between 20 and 59, after they found them acting suspicious while transporting a load of pipes on the back of a bakkie.

The suspects were handed over to the local police. While Cpt. Louw Stander searched the bakkie, he found two illegal firearms and five rounds of ammunition hidden between the pipes.

The suspects appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court in Tonga on Monday and were granted bail of R500 each. They will appear in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court on July 18.
