LYDENBURG – The Local Drug Action Committee (LDAC) hosted an event under the theme “Sport against drug abuse and illicit trafficking of drugs”, on Sunday.
“We have a high rate of young people who are taking or using drugs in this community, so we are giving them a chance to participate in sport and also trying to remove them from the streets,” said LDAC secretary, Godrick Mlambo. SAPS spokesman, Captain Alfred Moela told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that this will be an ongoing event. “We can win young people by involving them in participating in sport to avoid drugs. We define sport as a ministry in living a healthy lifestyle.”
The youth participated in soccer, netball and indigenous games.
The event was sponsored by civil society organisations, the Department of Social Development, South African Police Service, Mpumalanga Department of Health, Thaba Chweu Local Municipality, pastors and NPOs.
