Sleep success for Mattress Warehouse at Riverside

In honour of the Mattress Warehouse celebrating its 10th anniversary this July, all five branches countrywide simultaneously participated in the South African Sleep Championship Charity Event this weekend.

The branch in the Lowveld’s competition took place at Riverside Mall on Saturday at 09:00. A luxury Fabbro bed was set up in the centre court of the mall at the Spur entrance, with a laptop live-streaming the other contestants at the malls in Cape Town, Pretoria, Midrand and Polokwane.

The five contestants were selected via social media for sharing and liking the campaign’s post. Gabisile Nkoana represented Mbombela, and made herself comfortable in the Fabbro luxury queen-sized bed. The remaining contestant on the bed would be the lucky winner, and would take home the Fabbro bed they had been sleeping on. If a contestant left the bed for any reason, they would be eliminated from the competition.

The other four beds were given away as prizes in the selfie competition, which ran in conjunction with the campaign. A selfie stand was set up next to the mattress, and members of the public could take a selfie in the booth. The selfie then had to be tagged and shared on social media, of which, four winners were picked from the lucky draw on Wednesday night.  Mattress Warehouse staff members were present at each of the five locations to give the contestants support and assistance should they have needed it.

The sleeping competition concluded on Sunday morning. Nkoana and Cape Town contestant Julio Plaatjies were the remaining contestants. It was such a fierce battle that it was decided that both of them would be crowned as the winners, each walking away with a luxury Fabbro bed.

“With it being our 10th anniversary, we wanted to celebrate by giving back to the community and our loyal clients. This campaign is the start of something special, and the first one ever to be done like this. What makes it so special is the live streaming of the competition on our website and Facebook page. It’s causing a big buzz on social media,” said Johan Hendrikse, regional manager of Mattress Warehouse in Mbombela. “After the competition is finished, we will be donating R50 000 to the Hannah Charity in Benoni.”

With the Innibos festivities around Mbombela, pop stars Karlien van Jaarsveld and Jo Black, also stopped by the competition for photographs and to show Nkoana their support.

It was an exciting event, and the competition proved to be a huge success.
