Police nab wanted suspect in ambush

Police managed to capture a suspect wanted in connection with several cases of house robbery and rape in an ambush in the early hours of the morning on August 20.

TONGA – Police received information from an informant about a 34-year-old wanted suspect’s movements and swiftly laid an ambush at his girlfriend’s house at around 03:00 last Sunday.

As soon as the suspect and his girlfriend entered the house the police struck. The suspect was in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He was arrested and a case of possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence was opened and added to his list of charges, which include house robbery and rape.

The suspect appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on Monday and was remanded in custody. His next appearance is scheduled for today (Tuesday).

The station commander of Tonga, Brig Velisiwe Mdaka, applauded the members and the informant for a job well done. “Together we can create a crime-free environment,” she stated.
