KOMATIPOORT – Police have won two battles against cable and transformer theft in the area, after arresting four suspects on September 7.
Const Bongani Mthombeni and Const Skhombiso Mathe came across a suspicious-looking vehicle while patrolling the Mananga road around 03:00.
They searched it and found three transformer cables, a hammer and various other tools that could be used to cut copper cables and steal transformers.

The suspects were arrested, appeared in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court on the same day and were released on R500 bail each.
Later that day, a case of transformer theft was reported at a farm in Coopersdal. Two suspects were arrested for theft and possession of stolen goods and appeared in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court. They were released on R1 500 bail each.

All suspects are scheduled to appear in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court on October 3.
Komatipoort SAPS station commander, Lt Col Willie Meiring thanked his officers for their efforts in helping to curb cable theft, which is a big problem on farms in the area.
