Homes for pawed pals needed

If everyone can donate a mere R10 it will make a huge difference. It can be paid in at Lydenburg Animal Clinic.

LYDENBURG – Home 4 Paws is in desperate need of foster homes for the dogs of the shelter.

Cathy Schutte of Home 4 Paws was hit by her own bakkie. It rammed her into a steel gate. “I was in a hurry and forgot to pull up the handbrake. While I was opening the gate the bakkie started rolling downhill and pinned me onto the gate.

Luckily I didn’t break anything but I am on crutches and have to go and see a specialist on October 30 for a injury to my pelvis.” Ronel Venter, who helps Cathy at the shelter, has also undergone an operation and will not be able to assist her with the everyday running of it.

Schutte is currently looking after 52 dogs. Of these, 20 are big breeds which include a sheepdog, pit bullboerboel cross and a chow. She also has 12 Africanis dogs and 20 small breeds. There are 11 adorable puppies that were rescued.

Not only is Schutte struggling with the run of the shelter after her accident, her funds have dried up. “My donation tins with the money of which I pay veterinary costs were stolen at S&N Abattoir. The donations are drying up and the bills are escalating. If everyone can donate a mere R10 it will make a huge difference. It can be paid in at Lydenburg Animal Clinic.”

Schutte is calling on the community to assist her during this time. “Fostering does not mean adoption. The dogs will be taken back to the shelter once I have recovered.” She said that she is full to the brim and can’t take in any more stray dogs. “I am at my wits’ end. I really need the help of the community in this regard.” For more information call Schutte on 082-462-5754.
