Taxi owner set to reappear in court for alleged assault

The Barberton Magistrate's Court is expected to be a hive of activity today, Friday, October 13 when the taxi owner accused of assaulting a traffic officer, appears again.

Chyma Mwale, a serving member of the Barberton Taxi Association, will face a charge of common assault.
He last appeared in the same court on September 24. He was released on his own recognisance.
While traffic officers are expected to be at court to support their fellow policeman, taxi operators and owners have made it clear that they will also be at the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Friday to support their leader, Mwale.

During his previous court appearance, he denied that he had assaulted the officer.
Mwale claimed he was transporting children to school when the officer stopped him, and told him his taxi was overloaded. The officer allegedly took the keys from him.
He statde that they wrestled for the keys. Later that day he was surprised when the police came to him and said he had assaulted her.
The case will be heard at the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
