Bundu bliss with Mathys Roets
Roets entertained the crowd with his usual style and panache, his gentle crooning the perfect Sunday afternoon balm.
MBOMBELA – Languishing on the green grass in the shade of paperbark trees, is the ideal way to spend a Sunday afternoon, which is exactly how fans of Mathys Roets spent this past Sunday at Bundu Lodge.
Strumming his guitar, he added his usual full helping of humour to his show, with witticisms and jokes that had the audience chortling in delight.
A warm and engaging man with a richly hued, honeyed voice, he is always worth watching.

The guitar comes alive under his deft fingers, the gentle strumming a soothing and welcome sound on a lazy, albeit scorching Lowveld afternoon.
Not everyone can take on the great Leonard Cohen and get it right, but Roets is one of those who can.

His rendition of “Dance me to the end of love” was enchanting and lovely, his timbered, warm tones infused with the comforting sound of the guitar, and a gentle breeze blowing through the trees as the birds and insects, vibrant and alive in the summer sunshine, go about their business, flitting here and there while occasionally splashing in the water to cool off.
Sitting under the trees in happy camaraderie while listening to this man sing, you can almost believe that as long as there are days like this in the world, things can’t be that bad after all.
