Joint efforts to track down stolen vehicle lead to arrests

A suspected thief was arrested and stolen property recovered after police and security partners tracked down a stolen vehicle.

KOMATIPOORT – Thanks to the diligence of police officers and their civilian partners, a community member’s vehicle and other stolen property were recovered within hours.

On March 7, a resident of Tonga View reported that her vehicle and property had been stolen. Her tracking company and Tonga SAPS sprang into action after the vehicle was tracked to the BP Garage near the Lebombo Border Post.

The authorities found the vehicle and the man seated inside fled. The police, with help from community members and garage employees, chased down the suspect and arrested him. As they continued their search, they found a minibus with a stolen plasma TV, radio and speakers.

The vehicles and items were taken to Komatipoort SAPS.

Community members gave police more information and they went back to the garage and arrested another suspect.

The two suspects appeared in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court on Friday and were remanded in custody.
