UPDATE: Local businessman seriously injured following plane crash

Kerneels Kruger has been choppered to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg for treatment.

MBOMBELA – The wife of Kerneels Kruger, who was injured when his Cessna crashed on Thursday afternoon, has asked that people keep him in their prayers.

Corné Kruger said his injuries were much more severe than initially thought.

He crashed shortly after take-off at Nelspruit Airfield. His C7T1 vertebra was badly broken in the crash.

After he was treated at Mediclinic Nelspruit, it was decided to transport him by ambulance to Gauteng, but he had to be admitted to Middelburg Hospital’s ICU en route, due to breathing difficulties.

He was taken to Milpark by helicopter on Friday morning.

MBOMBELA – An aviation accident occurred this afternoon just outside Nelspruit Airfield.

Mbombela businessman Kerneels Kruger piloted the aircraft. The cause of the accident is not yet known.

Greg Wilcox from ER24 said the pilot was alone in the Cessna. It went down shortly after take-off, just off the runway and outside the airfield.

He sustained minor injuries. “The aircraft was destroyed. He has a laceration on his head. He is stable.”

Kruger is being treated at Mediclinic Nelspruit and undergoing X-rays.

The accident is to be investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority.
