Tourism South Africa briefing for Tourism Indaba 2018
Around 60 role players in the tourism industry gathered at Loerie's Call Guest House on Wednesday to learn more about Mpumalanga's involvement in this year's indaba to be held in Durban in May. The event was hosted by the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA).
MBOMBELA – “Africa’s Stories, Your Success” will be the theme of this year’s Tourism Indaba, and Mpumalanga will be represented in high quantities.
Gugu Dlamini, MTPA representative, said they were excited about their involvement. “We are hosting the Mpumalanga village again at the indaba this year and we want maximum participation from the tourism industry.”

Nitta Sukha from Tourism South Africa, gave a presentation on what the exhibitors and visitors can expect. “We want to urge exhibitors to remember that they are not only representing their product. Firstly, they are representing our country, secondly, the province and then their product.”

“This year we will continue under the new name, Africa’s Travel Indaba. We want it to be vibrant, energetic and sophisticated and showcase the best assets that Africa has to offer. We want to position South Africa as a leading country in Africa and educate the rest of the world on what is really happening here.”

A concern that was raised by attendees was the fact that the indaba calendar was not yet up and running. This calendar is used by exhibitors to schedule meetings with clients countrywide, as well as overseas.
“We assure you that the calendar will be up and running very soon, and that potential buyers will have to pay a fine this year if they do not attend scheduled meetings,” Sukha confirmed.
