BREAKING NEWS: Duma project on hold – smart meters included

Residents can now refuse the installation of the new smart meters pending the outcome of the review.

LYDENBURG – The Duma project and all aspects relating thereto have been put on hold.

This includes the installation of the new smart meters. A council resolution was taken on May 30, which indicated that the project is halted until the finalisation of the reviewal process.

According to Puleng Mapheto, communications manager at Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM) smart meter installation is also stopped until a formal assessment has been made.

EFF Cllr Exodus Maloka said that this means that everything relating to Duma has to stop for exploration. “We have been in constant communication with the office of the presidency, National Treasury and Cogta. This instruction comes from National Treasury. They established that the Public Private Partnership (PPP) contract was irregular from the letter go.”

Residents can now refuse the installation of the new smart meters pending the outcome of the review.

National and Provincial Treasury will be enlisted to help resolve the dispute regarding the Duma project.
