Boots full of bargains help a worthy cause
There were many bargains to be found among the goods sold at the second Love4Claws Boot Sale at the Inkwazi Centre last Saturday morning.
MALALANE – Entrepreneurs pitched their tents and loaded their boots with items ranging from dolls to braai wood for the second Love4Claws car boot sale last Saturday.
A section of the parking lot at the Inkwazi Centre (Malelane SUPERSPAR) was once again cordoned off and passers-by could browse the interesting items on offer.
Dandelion Prayers raised funds with a food stall to help with Damian Corbett’s recovery after a serious motor vehicle accident, while board members of the local Uthandiwe Children’s Home sold clothes to fund urgent renovations to the orphanage.

Organisers Love4Claws and a few other entrepreneurs had hugely popular stalls with all sorts of second-hand items. Most of their goods were sold just after the market opened.
Despite the strong winds forcing the day’s merchants to grab hold of lighter items or their tents every few minutes, the event was quite successful.
Love4Claws plans to host the boot sale once every quarter as a fund-raiser for their activities relating to curbing the stray-cat population in Malalane.
The next event will be on September 1, with spring cleaning as a theme.
Founder Patricia van der Westhuizen explained that Love4Claws is sterilising feral cats when funds are available. They are currently taking in more kitten litters as they are easier to catch than adult cats.

She urged community members not to move small kittens (under four weeks old, eyes closed) when they find them in a safe place in their yard, workshop or premises. Often the mother has left them in what she perceives to be a safe place and will return for them.
Patrica said that kittens need their mother’s milk for at least the first three weeks of their lives. “When we receive kittens when they are still that small, the chances of them making it are very slim,” she explained.
