PICTURES: Unveiling of the new Nelson Mandela statue

In celebration of Madiba's 100th birthday as well as heritage day, a statue was unveiled today.

Mpumalanga premier Refilwe Mtshweni unveiled the statue of former president Nelson Mandela this afternoon.

This came after a morning of celebrations, not only honouring the legacy of Madiba, but also that of Albertina Sisulu. It was also a celebration of heritage day that South-African’s celebrated on September 24.

The statue stands at the entrance to the Mpumalanga Legislature building. The different government buildings that are at the legislature were also renamed and cenotaphs that honour freedom fighters were also erected.
