Major concern about damaged bridge

"To this day, nothing has been done to fix the bridge. It poses a danger to pedestrians and motorists who are travelling on the R555 to Ohrigstad," said community member, Jappie Nkosi.

BURGERSFORT – The damaged Spekboom bridge is of major concern to the residents of Apiesdoring. The bridge’s safety barriers were damaged when a car plunged into the river four years ago.

“To this day, nothing has been done to fix the bridge. It poses a danger to pedestrians and motorists who are travelling on the R555 to Ohrigstad,” said community member, Jappie Nkosi.

He said that the community had made many representations to government, asking them to bring essential services to them, but they had had no luck.

“We have knocked on many doors of the government, including the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality, but each time we were given empty promises. We have waited for far too long, and we don’t feel like we belong to this government,” he said.

Limpopo’s roads and transport spokesman, Joshua Kwapa said they were unaware of the damaged steel barriers on the bridge. “We will report the matter to the relevant departments and we will ensure it gets fixed.”
