Loadshedding a possibility over the weekend

Eskom has announced that they may institute Stage 1 loadshedding this afternoon and possibly the weekend.

MALALANE – Due to a shortage of generating capacity, Eskom announced earlier today that they may institute Stage 1 loadshedding until 22:00.

There is also a risk of loadshedding this weekend, as Eskom needs to replenish their emergency reserves of water and diesel. This will enable them to “limit the possibility and magnitude of loadshedding” next week.

However, Eskom emphasised that they will only implement it if absolutely necessary to protect the power system from a total blackout.

Residents are urged to switch off appliances such as geysers, pool pumps, non-essential lights and any other appliance you are not actively using.
