Tropical cyclone to hit Mozambique by Thursday
The situation is being monitored and South Africa will receive an early warning should Idai make her way to the country.

LYDENBURG – The tropical cyclone Idai is gaining momentum and is said to hit Mozambique and Madagascar by Thursday.
According to Storm Report SA, Idai strengthened to a category 2 Cyclone overnight and intensified rapidly into the equivalent of a hurricane/typhoon. Category 2 cyclones or hurricanes can bring winds of 154 to 177 km/h.
“She has nearly doubled in her intensity in the last 12 hours, and rapid intensification is still ongoing. With sea surface temperatures well above the threshold required for storm development, and wind shear values near nil, only the storm itself could limit its own strengthening if it remains slow moving,” Storm Report SA indicated.

Current models still indicate a landfall in Mozambique late this week. Idai is expected to reach Category 4 in the next 24 hours.
The situation is being monitored and South Africa will receive an early warning should Idai make her way to the country.
