Calvin pupil is named deputy commissioner

BURGERSFORT – After winning Limpopo’s junior commissioners’ competition in 2018, Ayanda Malapane, a grade 10 pupil at Calvin College, was awarded the deputy junior national commissioner’s award.

Malapane was announced as the deputy commissioner at Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg on February 28. “A total of 63 contestants from all nine provinces participated in the competition. Each contestant was required to make a presentation on strategies that could be implemented to reduce and prevent crime.

“Only unique strategies to combat crime were required, and not the obvious conventional ones,” said Malapane upon her arrival.With the local contender being second best, Gauteng pupil Mahamba Felistas was crowned the winner of the event.

The competition was initiated by national police commissioner, Gen Khehla Sithole, to teach pupils how to deal with violence.It is one of the SAPS’ projects that seeks to provide the youth with an opportunity to contribute to and play a meaningful role in ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment in schools.
