Old madala’s bicycle catches eyes
"I decorate them with any objects I come across. It could be plastic bottles, tins or scraps. All I want to achieve is to see my bicycles eye-catching and beautiful."

BURGERSFORT – Many might have seen Moruti Jeffrey Selepe cycling around town and local villages. He travels on an orange bike, and he is also a stylish madala.
The pensioner from Magaba Park cruises around on a customised bike. Some know him as the famous pastor of the Apostolic Church, but it is his eye-catching bike that puts him a cut above the rest.

“I don’t own any car. My reliable transport has been a bicycle for years. I own two of them and everywhere I go people stop me to get pictures of my bicycle.”
He told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that he will never stop decorating his bikes.
“I decorate them with any objects I come across. It could be plastic bottles, tins or scraps. All I want to achieve is to see my bicycles eye-catching and beautiful.”
Selepe said he has travelled long distances with his bicycles. “I sometimes travel to Leboeng, which is about 60 kilometres out of Burgersfort, riding on my bike.”
He said he wishes other pensioners can join him in his cycling adventures. “We can have a bike club for the madalas. This will keep us healthy and we will get to socialise.”
He suggested locals need to start cycling to avoid the costly petrol price and month-end traffic jams.
