Trailer full of hogs topple over on pass

The pigs were being transported to Whiteriver.

LYDENBURG – Only one lane on the Long Tom Pass was accessible after a truck’s trailer transporting about 70 pigs fell over just before 13:00 today (Wednesday).

Rescue personnel responded swiftly and according to fire chief, Deon Broekman, only one pig was injured during the incident. “He sustained only a slight injury to his trotter. The others were contained by rescue personnel until other means of transport will arrive on the scene.”

Broekman and rescue personnel are still on scene directing traffic. The pigs were being transported to Whiteriver. Another trailer is said to be on route to pick up the hogs.
