FTLM pledge its support to the Ngwaabe mining forum
“This letter is to allow negotiations with the mining companies, which we will also partake in. We all aim at having an improved FTLM in which our economy can be improved and sustained. This does not mean you will be above the law, but to ensure smooth talks between the local mines, our communities and the Department of Mineral Services.”
BURGERSFORT – After several meetings the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM) has finally recognised and endorsed the Cluster Community Mining and Stakeholder Engagement Forum.
About 200 members of the forum received the letter of endorsement from the FTLM mayor, Naume Phala, last Thursday. Handing over the letter, Phala warned the residents of not being above the law.
“This letter is to allow negotiations with the mining companies, which we will also partake in. We all aim at having an improved FTLM in which our economy can be improved and sustained. This does not mean you will be above the law, but to ensure smooth talks between the local mines, our communities and the Department of Mineral Services.”
Representing the forum, Elias Tshukudu said all they need is a voice within the mining sector and to negotiate with the mines in terms of employment and development in their communities.
