Home 4 Paws Charity Shop opened
Amy Bellingham and her mother-in-law, Bets Bellingham took the initiative upon themselves to help make Cathy's dream came true.
LYDENBURG – A dream came true for Home 4 Paw’s owner Cathy Schutte when a charity shop for this non-profit organisation (NPO) opened in town.
Schutte is well known in the community for her unselfish rescuing and re-homing for abandoned, abused and neglected animals in Lydenburg, Mashshing and surrounding areas.
Since she started the shelter she had rescued 900 dogs and 56 cats. She feeds 65 dogs and 20 cats on a daily basis and provides medical care for them.
Amy Bellingham and her mother-in-law, Bets Bellingham took the initiative upon themselves to help make Cathy’s dream came true.
“Bets moved to Lydenburg and gaining a lot of experience at the Nelspruit SPCA Charity shop we put the ball on the roll. We were looking for a space to rent, which the most cost effective would have been over R4 000 a month but then angels came our way in the form of Yvette Labuschagne and Stephanie Reinecke of Quick Sell Reality who offered us the use of the space in the building across Longtom SPAR,” said Amy Bellingham.

“We are asking the community to donate any unwanted items that we will use to sell at a minimal fee, all of which will go towards the vet bills and caring for the animals in Cathy’s care. Should the shop be successful our aim is to donate goods (for example clothing) and donations to other charity organisations in Lydenburg as well, in turn helping the animals and the people, ” Bets said.
Schutte said she was very excited that after four years of operating at last her dream came true. “I believe that the charity shop will make a change with the 65 dogs and 20 cats. We will now manage to pay the medical bills and help feed more animals and needy disadvantaged locals.”
Amy added that the Lydenburg community have such warm hearts and they received many donations from many people enabling them to open their doors.
“We thank each and every one who made it possible for us to open the shop. You are truly amazing. If everyone gives a little we will be able to help everybody a whole lot!”
