Chamber plans to accompany municipality to problem areas

Blocked drains, overflowing manholes, unattended leaks and related issues were just some of the complaints that were received.

LYDENBURG – The Lydenburg/ Mashishing Business Chamber aims to conduct a walkabout through town with members of Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM).

The chamber reacted to numerous complaints from residents regarding sewerage problems in and around town. Blocked drains, overflowing manholes, unattended leaks and related issues were just some of the complaints that were received.

According to André Hanekom of the chamber, this initiative was brought about in an attempt to bring about accountability in TCLM. “The problems being experienced by residents in town, are not being addressed and hence we as the business chamber decided to call upon TCLM to accompany us to the problem areas.

Those working on the ground are aware of the situation and the issues being experienced, but with this walkabout, we will be able to show the management and officials of TCLM how dire some of the dilemmas are that workers and residents are facing.”

The chamber asked residents to send them photos of areas that need urgent intervention. Some of the images received include overflowing manholes, gigantic potholes, opened and unsecured pipe replacements, water leaks and the overall lack of service delivery.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
