House break-ins rife in town

“The area most affected is the central business district and the surrounding households. The break-ins are getting worse and although SAPS are making arrests in this regard, it is still a growing concern.”

LYDENBURG – House and business break-ins are flaring up and this could be on account of the approaching “silly season”.

Capt Alfred Moela, communications officer of Lydenburg SAPS, told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that not only house break-ins, but business break-ins, too, seem to be exceptionally rife.

“The area most affected is the central business district and the surrounding households. The break-ins are getting worse and although SAPS are making arrests in this regard, it is still a growing concern.”

Moela said the main issue is the linking of suspects with the crime committed. This means that although the police do make arrests, if there is no evidence linking them to the crime, they cannot be charged and arrested.

Moela said it is therefore imperative to report any suspicious activity as soon as possible. If you notice any suspicious persons or activity, contact SAPS office immediately on 013-235-1311.
