Local bowlers do well against other districts

Teams were selected for the Mpumalanga provincials, that will be hosted in 2020.

Two of Bungalows Bowling Club’s players, Christie Cross and Marlet Ireland, were part of the teams that were selected to represent the Lowveld in the Ladies Mini Interdistricts Bowls Tournament on September 21 and 22 at Ermelo Bowling Club.

Three districts participated: Lowveld, Highveld and Central.

The bowlers played six games of 15 ends over the two days. The format was fours. For each game won, two points were awarded.

The ladies open A-side (Marlet Ireland, Toekie Botha, Lynette Bubb and Christie Cross) did very well and won every game. The other open side (Madaleine de Klerk, Gwyn Korf, Stella Nel and Elinor Storkey) only lost one game out of six.

The weather was great with a light breeze coming through every now and then. The greens were tricky, but most bowlers found the right weight and the correct line.

At the end of the tournament the teams were selected for the Mpumalanga provincials, that will be hosted in 2020.

Results

First place: Lowveld A – 34 points

Second place: Central – 19 points

Third place: Highveld – 13 points

Fourth place: Lowveld B – 6 points.
