BURGERSFORT – As part of Mafemane Primary School’s career day, grade seven pupils were asked to dress up in the clothes they would wear in the careers they dream of pursuing when they have grown up.
On Friday, pupils at Ga Manoke village arrived at school in judges’ gowns, doctors’ lab coats, overalls and boots as mining engineers and other clothing typical of the jobs people do.
Speaking to Steelburger/Lydendburg News, school principal Ben Langa said, “I saw a movie star, a doctor, firefighter, an architect and a video game creator among my pupils.
“This is usually a fun assignment to get younger students thinking about their career options. I was thrilled with their choices and I am optimistic that the future is bright for our kids,” he said.

Langa added that the purpose of the session was to expose pupils to career information early in their school years. On the day, pupils also made presentations on those careers.
Grade six pupils were invited to observe the activity for future reference and improvement, and this was also to provide a learning opportunity for them.

“The kids defined their different chosen careers, the level of schooling required, dress code and the institution of higher learning where the career can be pursued,” added the principal.
The school also invited a motivational speaker, Moshoane Madelane, to attend on the day.
