Maupa’s murderer accused abandon bail application

BURGERSFORT – The alleged killers of former Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality’s councillor, Thabang Maupa, abandoned their bail application at the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The two suspects, Kagiso Maroga (34) and Dan Tjie (35), opted against applying for bail due to safety concerns.

The case has been postponed to December 6, with the two accused remanded in custody.

Limpopo SAPS’ Col Moatshe Ngoepe said police investigations are continuing in this matter, with several other suspects expected to be arrested.

Hundreds of supporters, including the MEC for transport and community safety in Limpopo, Dickson Masemola, accompanied by the provincial commissioner of the Limpopo SAPS, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba, attended the court proceedings.

Masemola told the crowd that he was worried about political killings happening in Limpopo.

“We have lost a few political leaders in our province, and we are hard at work ensuring all the perpetrators are brought to book.

“We will still continue with Operation Swara Tsotsi in Tubatse and other towns in our province to ensure crime is brought to a minimum”

Masemola also warned men to refrain from getting involved in gender-based violence and abusing women and children.

“There are two innocent kids who were raped and killed by men in the Sekhukhune area. We need a dialogue with men in Sekhukhune to warn them about their crimes. We will continue to arrest the animals who are abusing women and children.”
