Needy family handed a new house

“The family has been applying for an RDP house yearly, but for unknown reasons their attempts to get the house were not fruitful. We sought help from local contractors, through their community social responsibility programme, to help build a house for the family,” said Ramaila.

SEKHUKHUNE – For years the Matsila family in Tsimanyane village has been struggling with finding proper shelter.
The family of 17 heaved a sigh of relief when they were officially handed a brand new house on Monday. They previously stayed in a two-roomed house.
The Matsila family parents, seven children and eight grandchildren have been trying to apply for an RDP house for years without success.

They were identified by the Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, during her visit in Sekhukhune two years ago.
Sekhukhune District Municipality’s executive mayor, Stan Ramaila, and Mkhwebane officially handed over the five-roomed house to the family.

In addition, the family was also handed new furniture and groceries.
Ramaila said only the mother in the family was employed, through an Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP).
“The family has been applying for an RDP house yearly, but for unknown reasons their attempts to get the house were not fruitful. We sought help from local contractors, through their community social responsibility programme, to help build a house for the family,” said Ramaila.
He said they were happy to lend a helping hand in ensuring that Mkhwebane’s promise to build a house for the family was realised. The family was overwhelmed with joy and expressed gratitude to both departments for ensuring they had a proper roof over their heads.
