Mpumalanga Hawks seek person of interest in fraud case
Police believe that the person pictured may be able to assist with information which may help in solving a multi-million rand fraud case.

MBOMBELA – The man pictured has been identified by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit in Mpumalanga as a person of interest in connection with a fraud case.
According to a statement, allegations surfaced in 2013 that a person claiming to be employed by Mbombela municipality fraudulently opened a bank account using fake documentation.

The Mpumalanga Provincial Department of Public Works allegedly paid R3 million into the account to settle an account owed to the municipality. It later emerged that the money was paid into the alleged fraudster’s account.
The Hawks’ investigation, supported by video footage from the bank where the account was opened, revealed that large cash withdrawals were made from ATMs and a number of bank branches in Gauteng, including Kempton Park, Ormonde, Sandton and other surrounding areas.
