Suspect remanded in custody for dealing in drugs  

A Sudanese national appeared in the Komatipoort Magistrates Court on drug charges.

John Adams (54) was remanded in custody by the Komatipoort Magistrates Court on Wednesday after he appeared for a charge of dealing in drugs.

He was arrested on Tuesday by members of Komatipoort SAPS and members of the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit in Mpumalanga during a stop-and-search operation.

Adams was stopped near Komatipoort. He was driving a white Hilux double-cab bakkie from Mozambique and was heading to Johannesburg. Adams, a Sudanese national, was allegedly found without proper documentation and his luggage contained crystal meth drugs valued at R150 000.

He was remanded in custody until  January 24 for further investigation and to give him the opportunity to obtain legal representation. The other three occupants were released as they were not linked to any crime.
