Joint operations in Limpopo arrest271 undocumented foreign nationals

SEKHUKHUNE – The Limpopo SAPS have so far arrested 271 undocumented foreign nationals during the festive season operations conducted from December 18 to date.
Police spokesman Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said these undocumented foreign nationals were mainly arrested during roadblocks and stop-and-search operations conducted around the province.

He said that 54 of these undocumented nationals were arrested on December 31 at a roadblock along the N1 south of Polokwane. Mojapelo said during the operations, 237 shebeens were closed, 94 licensed liquor premises were charged for non-compliance with the liquor act and six of them were closed down.

“As part of these operations, the police also occasionally conducted joint operations to prevent cross-border crimes, including the smuggling of stolen goods from and into the country, such as illicit cigarettes and vehicles,” said Mojapelo.
He added that illicit cigarettes worth R2,2 million were also seized at a roadblock in Polokwane on New Year’s Day.
The operations are still continuing and the arrested suspects are expected to appear before the courts in and around the province.
