TCLM local disability forum
Thaba Chweu Local Municipality Disability Forum (TCLMDF) held their annual general meeting recently.
The AGM took place at the town hall where issues that affect people with disabilities were discussed, including the election of a new disability structure committee that will represent people with disabilities in the local municipality.
The previous structure’s two-year term lapsed and a new one was elected, with additional members from 10 existing zones in TCLM that include Lydenburg, Skhila, Sabie, Graskop, Pilgrim’s Rest, Matibidi, Brondal, Harmony Hill, and Leroro.

According to TCLM’s transversal acting manager, Fikile Khoza, the meeting was about checking on the progress that the outgoing committee has achieved during their term.
The challenge is to improve the standard of living for people with disabilities, and also the roll-out of the two per cent according to the employment equity act, to accommodate people living with disabilities in the work environment, in the government sector and non-government sectors.
Ehlanzeni Disability Forum secretary, Winnie Masiya acknowleged the election of the Thaba Chweu Disability Forum structure and urged the new committee to help in developing people living with disabilities in their communities.

Isaac Mdhuli, also living with disabilities, told Steelburger/Lydenburg News they are glad that the new committee elected will advocate for people with disabilities, and make sure they are employed and exposed to business opportunities to change their standard of living.
