Man arrested for allegedly burning down a property in Marloth Park.
MARTLOTH PARK - A 30-year-old man was arrested for arson last week, after allegedly burning down a property in Marloth Park.
A garden flat, located a few metres from a local woman’s house, was partially destroyed in the blaze. The suspect appeared in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
A Field Security patrol team that had been patrolling the area, noticed smoke coming from the property. Field Security reaction officers investigated and found the flat on fire.

The fire response unit was activated. Reptile Rescue assisted in towing the community police forum’s firefighting trailer, and they were able to contain the fire.
The thatch roof, the doors as well as the contents of the flat were destroyed. The owner of the property, who wishes to remain anonymous, thanked all the people involved in extinguishing the fire.
The suspect remains in custody and will appear in court again this week.
