Athletes leave it all in the field

Hoërskool Lydenburg athletes reclaimed their third-place position during the 71st Mediclinic Nelspruit Interhigh. It was hosted at Hoërskool Bergvlam on Saturday. Lydenburg amassed 903,5 points.

 

The A-team boys and girls bagged  475,5 and the B-team boys and girls 428. Interhigh is one of the most anticipated events of the year in the school sports season and only the best are selected to participate.

Athletes from the local school competed against Hoërskool Bergvlam, Hoërskool Nelspruit, Penryn College, Lowveld High, Hoërskool Rob Ferreira and Hoërskool Barberton.

Hoërskool Nelspruit came first with 1 567,5 and Rob Ferreira were second on 1 306 points. Lydenburg athletes gave an exceptional performance during this challenging competition.

 

Some of the stars included Jesica Annandale, who was first in her age group when she jumped a height of 1,55 metres in the u/16 high jump. She scooped a well-deserved gold for this.

Divan van Jaarveld also received a gold medal when he jumped 1,5 metres in the u/14 high jump and Matiko Lerutla jumped a height of 1,85 metres in the u/17 high jump, also bagging a gold in the process.

Ronen Burger was named the best cheerleader of the school. “We are very proud of the athletes,” said Alex Fourie of Hoërskool Lydenburg. “We are thankful for every single athlete who participated and contributed throughout the season.”
