Five armed suspects fled in a blue Toyota Yaris after the incident. The driver raced down Rissik Street at high speed towards the N4. Several Securicon task team members were deployed and all exit routes out of Komati were closed off.

The Yaris turned onto the Mananga Road towards Swaziland while still being followed by Securicon’s vehicles. The vehicle then turned onto a gravel road on a sugar cane farm. The driver lost control and the vehicle rolled several times. All suspects made it out of the vehicle and ran into the fields.

The immediate area was cordoned off with the assistance of local farmers and community members were called in to assist. One of the farmers with a helicopter rendered air support while Securicon searched the sugar cane field. The suspects were, however, not apprehended.
The suspects’ vehicle and evidence were retrieved on the scene by Securicon and SAPS detectives for further investigation.
