Limpopo Province doctor contracts Covid-19 during trip to Europe

POLOKWANE – The Department of Health has urged Limpopo residents not to panic after the first case of the Covid-19 coronavirus was recorded in the province. A 28-year-old male doctor, who travelled to Europe, tested positive for the disease on March 16.
During an urgent media briefing at the department’s headquarters on Monday, health MEC Phophi Ramathuba, confirmed the first index case of Covid-19 in the province.
She indicated that the doctor has been to France, Spain and the Netherlands. Although Ramathuba could not disclose the name of the doctor, his workplace and where he is currently based, she stressed that upon his return the doctor did not show any signs or symptoms of the virus. This doctor self-quarantined upon his return, went for tests and unfortunately, the results proved to be positive.

Ramathuba further emphasised that she had a discussion with the doctor in question and reiterated that he is in high spirits, is not sick, doesn’t cough and doesn’t have any fever.

Meanwhile, the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) has postponed its Easter Conference that was scheduled to take place in April until further notice.
Speaking to SABC News on Tuesday, the church’s spokesperson, Reverend Emmanuel Motolla, confirmed that the church had decided to postpone their annual pilgrimage and would announce a new date once normality has been restored.
“To set the record straight, the Zion Christian Church has postponed this years’ annual Easter pilgrimage, held at the headquarters of Moria, due to the coronavirus known as Covid-19. The church’s spiritual leader, Dr BE Lekganyane, took the decision on Friday, March 13 after the church was briefed by the national government delegation led by the health minister, Zweli Mkhize,” said Motolla.
