Steelburger/Lydenburg News visited the local office. On arrival, the newspaper found a number of people who seemed frustrated standing outside.
The office manager, Angel Yende, dismissed the allegations that the public was being denied access to services.

“We explained to members of the public that due to the instructions that, we had been given, we cannot allow staff members to work without following the right preventative measures.
“We have a procedure to follow that includes wearing face masks and having hand sanitisers. This is part of rules introduced to departments to help the decrease the spread of the coronavirus.
“We announced the challenges we were facing in the morning and maybe the people who were frustrated could be those who had not been around when we made the announcement. We came up with a plan to get the necessary things needed and we started operating as soon as we had received it.”

She said they have a limited number of people can only assist.

“We only allow 10 people to enter our offices at a time to avoid contracting the Covid-19 virus. We when we finish with the group, we allow others to enter. We have to follow the restrictions as per the government.”

She added that they have another challenge – going offline – which is currently happening nationally.
