First Covid-19 fatality confirmed in Limpopo

Limpopo has recorded its first death from the Covid-19 coronavirus.

POLOKWANE – Limpopo has recorded its first death from the Covid-19 coronavirus.

The incident was confirmed by the Limpopo MEC of health, Phophi Ramathuba, in a press release last night.

According to the statement, the patient was an elderly man with underlying illnesses, which increased his susceptibility to Covid-19.

 

He passed away at Netcare Pholoso during the morning of April 15.

The patient was admitted to the hospital via the emergency department on April 7.

“The patient, on admission, was assessed and screened for Covid-19 symptoms and exposure as per the Netcare protocol,” said the MEC’s spokesperson, Thilivhali Muavha.

The department immediately advised precautionary Covid-19 measures to a group of 100 doctors, staff, and patients by placing them to a 14-day home quarantine which started on April 12.

The group had come into contact with the deceased.

Coronavirus has already infected 26 people in Limpopo. 



Ramathuba and Netcare Pholoso have extended their heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.

As of today, Limpopo had 26 coronavirus infections.
