LYDENBURG – President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation once again this evening.
His message tonight include that economic relief will be provided for the country amidst the coronavirus struggle.
The president said that the economic response to the virus has three phases.
The first includes the announcement of the country a national disaster. “We are now entering the second phase which includes the stabilisation of the economy and the protection of jobs.
For this, the country has allocated an R500 billion relief package. This includes the drive of an extra health budget to ensure enough beds, ventilators, medication and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Ramaphosa said that those who are dependant on grants will receive a six-month corona-grant. This means an increase in grant money for those who are dependant on this income alone.

He also confirmed that he will again address the nation on Thursday to indicate how the third phase – the reopening of the economy will take place. “We will introduce a balance which will respond to the need for combatting the virus as well as getting employees back at work.”
