Wear your mask safely

Masks offer us social comfort in public spaces, even though some droplets can still enter through cloth masks.

Masks are only effective when…

  • People follow the guidelines for using a mask. If they don’t, it creates more of a risk than wearing no mask at all!

Ensure the effectiveness of wearing a mask:

  • Always use your mask in combination with frequent handwashing with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water, or sanitize your hands before putting on the mask
  •  The mask should cover your mouth and nose, leaving no gaps between your face and the mask

  •  Tie the strings firmly behind your head. If using elastic bands, make sure these are tight
  •  Clean cloth masks correctly (in a bleach solution, ironed or dried in the sun)

  •  Replace the mask with a new one if it gets damp. Dispose of surgical masks in a rubbish bin

  • Don’t share masks

You have control over your health and you have the power to reduce the risk to others. Arming yourself with the correct counter measures against COVID-19 is as important as having the knowledge to correctly apply them. Wear your masks correctly and make them count!
