SAPS ensures that safety measures are met
Officers ensured that all shoppers wore masks and adhered to social-distancing rules

LYDENBURG – The wearing of face masks has been declared compulsory from May 1 and Lydenburg SAPS have gone all out to ensure that shoppers abide by these regulations.
Col Samson Sibiya and a team of SAPS officers were on duty at the Pick n Pay centre on Wednesday, where they instructed shoppers to comply with the statutory wearing of masks. They also ensured that social distancing was maintained in queues outside shops.
Sibiya told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that they are taking the health and safety of the residents in town very seriously, hence their presence to ensure that all regulations were adhered to.

Officers were also seen in other areas in town where they patrolled the streets and monitored queues at various shops.
Brig Leonard Hlathi, provincial spokesperson of Mpumalanga SAPS, said law-enforcement agencies are encouraging people to wear face masks and observe the social-distancing principle as instructed by the President.
“We appreciate what people are doing to ensure that they and their fellow South Africans remain healthy and safe, but we are requesting those who still do not comply to change.”
Since Saturday after certain shops started trading again, the town has seen a huge increase in shoppers. According to officers, this is one of the main reasons they are ensuring the health and safety of residents and shoppers.
