NUM is concerned about safety of miners.

The  National Union of Mineworkers (NUM)  in the North East region said it is deeply concerned about the safety of miners, and those that have tested positive of Covid-19.

The union has called on all mineworkers to stay at home.

“The NUM can confirm that a second employee at DCM  has tested positive on  May 6 and this comes after the first employee tested positive on May 3. It is alleged that the second employee made contact with the first employee. The NUM also called upon all the mines in the Eastern Limb to adhere to Covid-19 regulations.

“We are urging all mining companies to adhere to regulations as prescribed by the Minister Gwede Mantashe,” added Mankge.

The NUM  said it will continue to advocate for the rights of their members and be the voice of the voiceless and the poor.
