International award for Graskop Gorge Lift Company
The Graskop Gorge Lift Company outside Graskop has been honoured with a 2020 Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award.
This award programme celebrates travellers’ favourite hotels, restaurants and airlines around the world and 4 817 unique businesses have received the award this year. Winners are calculated based on the quality and quantity of the millions of reviews, opinions and ratings collected on Tripadvisor in 2019 prior to the pandemic.
The Graskop Gorge Lift Company is recognised for having successfully introduced the latest and most innovative tourism development in South Africa and the only one of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. Lowering visitors to the network of elevated walkways, suspension bridges and interactive exhibitions using a 26-passenger viewing elevator, the Graskop Gorge Viewing Elevator enables tourists to entrench themselves in the abundant natural beauty native to Mpumalanga.
Oupa Pilane, co-founder and director of the Graskop Gorge Lift Company says the award shows that South Africa is able to deliver a world-class tourism product with world-class service that entertains people from all over the world.
“We were tested and we passed with flying colours. We are very proud of all our staff, because they are the people who made this happen,” he says.

He says the award brings hope in a difficult time for the entire tourism industry. “We are excited to welcome tourists, both local and international, to the Graskop Gorge Lift Company,” he says.
