Swift Group celebrates 10 years

Replacing a geyser on Christmas Day or doing some emergency plumbing late on New Year’s Eve is not uncommon and has happened to many in the past.  That is what a 24/7 service, always being on standby, is all about, says Lasea Swift, vivacious founder of the Swift Group, for many years a household name in the Lowveld.

Specialising in plumbing and electrical emergency work, including general and household maintenance, Swift offers prompt services regarding electrical compliance certificates, which is why most local homes have the number 013-752-3722 on hand.

It also includes services such as emergencies, new installations and maintenance.

We focus on insurance claims and maintenance, leaving a site as spotless as it was before damage occurred or faults were detected. Experience has taught us what stock to carry and how well equipped each vehicle needs to be. It cuts waiting time and allows for a real 24-hour service.

The Swift Group has grown into an operation with 12 to 15 teams in the field daily. This is not only a man’s world and includes trained women in all fields of service.

Swift offers practical intern training to the major local technical and trade training facilities. Swift runs a tight operation, comprising nine vehicles, from the premises in De Villiers Street, behind Sonpark , however, it is her work and involvement in the community that Lasea dearly loves.

Last week the Swift Group celebrated 10 years under its current management.

It honoured its clients and thanked the community for making the company what it is today.

Swift’s 11-year involvement as the plumbing service provider to the annual Innibos Arts Festival is a great privilege. Apart from providing the temporary grid, this is a behind-the-scenes, onsite standby operation offering many challenges, often unforeseen, which she is proud to be able render as seamless as possible, year after year.

Offering mainly technical assistance, this includes several schools, activities of CANSA and the SPCA. But most important to her and the Swift Group is the relationship with clients.

Deon and Trudy Visser (Bergvlam) Everything is not always plain sailing, she admits, but by following the right procedure and by offering immaculate after-service care, this company always gives its best. In the world of local business such relationship are of utmost importance to keep, and build on.

Renaaldia and Arrie Henn (Laerskool Nelspruit).

Proper client liaison is the best marketing tool available, she says. And this is only the first 10 years – it can only get even better from here.

Edean Mxulu – Plumbing Technician. “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”

For the Swift Group recognising the potential in its people is part of its work culture. Edean Mxulu, Innocent Mabuza, Xolani Matsane, Benedict Malope and Mfundo Kolobe all did their apprenticeships with the company and were identified as top students.

They have transitioned from apprentices into full-time employees and bring a fresh, innovative approach to the Swift Group.

Xolani Matsane – Plumbing Technician. “You can’t do the same thing over and over again and expect different results.”

Another success story is that of Charles Nsibande, who started out as a gardener and now works as a maintenance technician, “Charlie as we call him, showed interest in the construction side of the business.  He just had a natural passion and a gift for plastering and painting.

His attention to detail made him a real asset to the company,” says Swift. The Covid-19 pandemic has certainly bought the team closer together and showed how committed they are to their customers. “These men have taught me how to stay calm and focused in difficult circumstances. I cannot do without these men from Swift Group in my life,” concludes Swift.

Jeffrey Malungana – Plumbing Technician. “There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.”
