Lowveld High School, serving the community since 1970
Lowveld High has served the community of Mbombela and surrounds since 1970 when we opened our doors as the first English medium high school, and provide a top-class quality education to thousands of young people as the most established and largest English public high school in the area.
This school of excellence offers a truly South African education experience, academics, sport, culture and community service. Our learners’ achievements at local, provincial, national and international level are legendary. Tolerance, exclusivity and respect form the cornerstones of our philosophy.
Lowveld High School is widely regarded as one of the top academic high schools in Mpumalanga. The University of the Witwatersrand credited Lowveld High as one of the top feeder schools for Mpumalanga. We offer one of the widest ranges of subject choices, make use of technology in our classrooms, and have dedicated staff that assist with educational support.
Sport
In addition to our academic excellence, on the sports field, Lowveld High is a leader in the development of girls’ and boys’ sport. We have girls’ rugby, soccer and cricket in addition to the traditional girls’ sports.
Our sporting facilities include tennis courts, a swimming pool, two cricket fields, three hockey fields, netball courts, a soccer field and a rugby field. We have a fully equipped gym with a dedicated sports department that works with the learners based on their individual sport and fitness levels.
Under the guidance of our coaches, our learners’ achievements at local, provincial, national and international level are legendary.
Culture
As a school, we strive not only for the best academic results in the classroom and on the sports field, but we also excel in the cultural arena. Our award-winning choir continues to make Lowvelders proud. In addition, we offer debating, a geo club, public speaking, one-act plays and musicals.
Hostel
Lowveld High has a hostel that accommodates 300 boys and girls in our beautiful surroundings. Children from outlying areas, including Malalane, Hazyview, eManzana, Elukwatini, Acornhoek, as well as from eSwatini and Mozambique, form part of “The Home of the Blues”, which contributes to our culturally rich and diverse school population. We offer weekly and termly boarding.
Our learners enjoy a well-balanced supervised daily routine with free Wi-Fi, a recreation area, a fully equipped gym and supervised study sessions. Three healthy, hearty home-cooked meals are served daily. Lowveld High is indeed a “Home away from Home”, @“Home of the Blues”.
