Cairn Road now open

The road was opened at midday after being closed for almost 10 hours.

The Cairn Road has been opened following a protest by the New Cairn Community Trust this morning regarding a land dispute.

The community blocked the road with rocks, burning tyres and rubble at 03:00 this morning The road was eventually opened at 12:40 today.

The road was opened and cleared by the community following negotiations with police and government officials, although it was unclear which state department was at the scene at the time of going online.

Community leader of the New Cairn Community Trust, Stephan Nyasenga, alleged that land belonging to the trust had recently been sold, with another portion on the market, without the community’s permission or knowledge.

He said there were several other issues concerning the portions of land, such as people buying local servitudes from the community, but failing to pay.
